Getting started

  1. Install the desktop app. Download the signed and Apple-notarized UniPass 0.2.36 disk image for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12 or later. Intel Macs are not currently supported. Open the .dmg, drag UniPass to Applications, then create your vault and set a master password.
  2. Install the browser extension. UniPass supports Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. The Chrome Web Store listing and Microsoft Edge Add-ons listing are available now.
  3. Unlock the desktop app, then open the extension on a login page and fill your credentials.

Troubleshooting

The extension says the desktop app isn't running

The extension needs the UniPass desktop app to be installed and running. Make sure the app is open, then click the extension again. The credentials are held by the app — the extension only talks to it locally.

The extension shows a lock icon

Your vault is locked. Unlock the desktop app with your master password, and the extension will reconnect automatically.

Autofill didn't fill the form

Some sites use uncommon or multi-step login forms. Try opening the extension popup and choosing the matching entry manually, or use the right-click menu → UniPass on the username/password field. Popup and toolbar filling stays in the top page. If you click the inline UniPass button or use the UniPass right-click action inside an embedded login frame, credentials are sent only to that exact frame; they are never broadcast to other frames.

The app won't open on macOS

UniPass release builds are Apple-notarized, so they should open normally on Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12+. If macOS still blocks the app, right-click it → Open, then confirm.

Frequently asked

I forgot my master password — what can I recover?

If you enabled a Recovery Code before losing access, you can use it to choose a new master password and Secret Key while preserving your encrypted vault. UniPass cannot see or recover the code for you.

Without a valid Recovery Code, email reset starts a new, empty vault and permanently deletes the previous encrypted vault, shares, attachments, emergency-access relationships, and registered devices. Accounts with 2FA enabled must also pass 2FA. Support cannot undo this operation. See Security.

Is cloud sync required?

No. UniPass works fully offline. Sync is optional, off by default, and uploads only end-to-end encrypted ciphertext when enabled.

Which platforms are supported?

UniPass currently supports Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12+, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge. The Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons listings are both public. Intel Macs, Windows, Linux, and mobile desktop companions are not currently available.
